Drug & Alcohol Detoxification

An Introduction to

Drug & Alcohol Addiction

For an alcoholic or drug addict, quitting drugs and alcohol is hard work.  It is the first step in entering a new way of life.  However, depending on the severity of the addiction, detoxifying the body can range from uncomfortable to very serious.  A clear mind and body are needed before any treatment can begin.

That is where detoxification comes in. Keep reading to learn more about what detox is, how it can help, and why the drug & alcohol detox program at Starbridge Recovery in Los Angeles is your best choice for overcoming addiction.

How to Quit Abusing Drugs & Alcohol

What Exactly is Detoxification?

Detoxification is the process of the body ridding itself of toxins (drugs and alcohol) from the organs and blood stream.  When a person who is addicted suddenly stops using the substance of choice, within 6-24 hours, withdrawal symptoms can start to appear.  Withdrawal symptoms can range from mild to very serious, so medical assistance is always recommended.

Withdrawal symptoms can be the most unpleasant part of recovering from addiction, and you don’t want to endure this alone.  A luxury inpatient detox program will help ease you through this process safely and as comfortably as possible.

How to Know if I need Detox? Can't I Quit on My Own?

Why Detox is Necessary & The Benefits

The purpose of a detox program is to safely ease and manage withdrawal symptoms when someone stops taking drugs or alcohol. Everyone has a different experience with detox. The type of drug and frequency it was used affect what detox will be like for each individual. Some common symptoms of detoxing include:

  • Sleep disturbances, such as insomnia or intense nightmares
  • Nausea and/or vomiting
  • Anxiety
  • Lack of appetite
  • Intense sweating, especially at night
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Increased blood pressure
  • Feeling confused or disoriented
  • Agitation
  • Fever
  • Irritability
  • Rapid heart rate

These symptoms can be distressing and uncomfortable, but don’t typically result in life-threatening conditions. There are however some more serious side effects that can cause permanent damage and should be closely monitored, depending on the substance one is abusing. Our luxury detox program in Los Angeles closely monitors your symptoms and will intervene whenever necessary.  Some of the more serious symptoms include:

  • Tremors- these usually present within a few hours after the last alcoholic drink and are most intense after 24 to 48 hours. Trembling is often accompanied by a spike in blood pressure and difficulty regulating heartbeat and temperature.
  • Hallucinations
  • Seizures-which can be life threatening

Detox is the first and most necessary part of recovery. It builds the foundation for the rest of your treatment program. We recommend against detoxing at home, as there are many factors that go into an effective detox that are more likely to be successful under the supervision of medical professionals. Detoxing at home without medical and emotional support can result in relapse and serious health risks.

Our luxury inpatient detox program ensures you have 24/7 access to highly trained doctors, medicated assistance if necessary, and alternative treatments to make your detox as comfortable as possible. Your chances of successfully recovering are much greater in a luxury detox program.

You don’t have to endure the symptoms alone.  In a private setting, our skilled doctors and caring staff will help you through this process so that you can begin the journey of healing. With 24/7 monitoring and support, we can intervene when needed to ensure your utmost comfort and victory over your addiction.

Evidence-Based Drug & Alcohol Detoxification

Our Los Angeles Drug & Alcohol Detox Program

Upon arrival at our luxury inpatient treatment center, we specialize in providing a warm and welcoming environment. You will undergo an initial consultation process. During this evaluation, licensed professionals will check your current biophysical and psychological health status.  We will gather personal and family health history, and address any co-occurring mental health conditions. This assessment process allows the staff to have a solid understanding of your physical and mental needs to ensure the appropriate services during the detoxification phase. It’s vital to be as honest as possible. Leaving out any details regarding your addiction and health history can result in health complications, and a more challenging detox.

Once the initial intake is complete, you will be introduced to your staff and given a full tour of our beautiful homelike facility. We will bring you to the private room where you will reside during your stay, and give you some time to settle in. Our goal is for you to feel as familiar and comfortable as possible in our treatment center.

Our detox program uses a comprehensive approach and is adjusted to meet each client’s specific needs. Your unique recovery plan considers what drugs have been used, when the last dose was taken, how long the addiction has been going on, and any past history of detox attempts. Our detox plan will include medications, nutrition, emotional support, counseling, alternative treatments, and withdrawal supervision.

As you progress through the detox process, our staff will keep a close eye on both your mental and physical health. Our staff is trained to make any adjustments necessary to your detox plan in response to any discomfort you may experience. We ensure that there will always be someone nearby to provide any necessary changes. We encourage and practice open communication so you always feel attended too.
