Trauma-resolution therapies in a sanctuary setting. Dual diagnosis treatment for PTSD and co-occurring substance use.

An Introduction to

PTSD Treatment

Millions of people every year are diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. When coupled with an alcohol or drug addiction, PTSD can become harder to treat — both conditions feed off of each other, and many people don't know where to turn for help.

Starbridge Recovery is a luxury treatment center in Los Angeles that provides dual diagnosis treatment for PTSD. We treat both conditions at the same time so that clients have the best chance of recovery and a return to a normal life.

PTSD is a newer term for a condition that has been around a long time — notably when soldiers returned from war and struggled to return to normal life. Originally called 'shell shock,' it later became known as PTSD.

It is now known that PTSD affects far more than just military veterans. It can affect men, women, children, the elderly, and anyone in between. PTSD is best described as an emotional and sometimes physical response to a traumatic and stressful event.

With proper counseling and treatment, PTSD is entirely manageable. But many people go without treatment due to lack of access or knowledge — and turn to drugs and alcohol to cope. That's where dual diagnosis care becomes essential.

Treating PTSD & Addiction Together

Dual diagnosis treatment is the only way to successfully treat both PTSD and addiction. When a person has both at the same time, treating only one will fail — the untreated condition will cause the other to resurface, ultimately resulting in relapse.

While addiction does not typically cause PTSD, it is used as a coping mechanism for the symptoms. Treating the addiction is only temporary if the underlying trauma remains unresolved. Our dual diagnosis program for PTSD and addiction works to find the root cause and manage symptoms so clients can live as normal a life as possible.

Our trauma-focused therapies include EMDR, somatic experiencing, and trauma-focused CBT — delivered by clinicians who specialize in complex post-traumatic stress and the addictions that often accompany it.
